The attack which was carried out by a Syrian national in the Sultanahmet district, near the famous Blue Mosque, has claimed the lives of 10 people, at least eight of them German tourists, besides injuring 15 others.
“We have determined that the perpetrator of the attack is a foreigner who is a member of Daesh [IS],” BBC quoted Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
Turkey has already seen a wave of violence in past few months when a pair of suicide bombers killed 102 people during a peace rally in the capital Ankara last October and another attack had left 33 dead in Suruc, a town on the Syrian border.
